Fibreglass Chopped Strand Mat and Woven Roving

Glass makers classify chopped strand mat, continuous strand mat, woven roving, and gun roving, pultrusion roving, chopped strands etc as Primary Reinforcements. All share identical stuff – fibreglass – that's created once liquid glass is force through bushings.

Chopped Strand Mat is formed from at random directed fibers, 1.5 -2 inches long, control along by a styrene-dissolvable binder into a rolled mat type. once the binder dissolves, the fabric conforms to very tight radii. it's primarily accustomed add stiffness and bulk as a tooling material, reinforce gel coat and scale back print-through, or increase inter-laminar strength once placed between layers of woven material. Weight is measured in ounces per square measure.

Continuous Strand Mat has long, continuous fibers command together by non-styrene-dissolvable binder. once saturated with rosin, the fabric retains its form. it's most frequently used in RTM and pultrusion processes.

Woven Roving may be a loose material that drapes simply, conforms to compound curves, and features a significant weave pattern that transfers through gel coat once placed close to the surface. Its strength is as a result of a high glass-to-resin ratio, creating it ideal for contact molding or used because the last laminate layer in boats and huge structures. chopped strand mat are often secured to the rear for bigger reinforcement. Weight is measured in ounces per sq yd.
