The method of producing the static electricity of Chopped strand mat

There are many methods of eliminating the static electricity in the production of  fiberglass chopped strand mat, and several simple methods are introduced here..

Wetting agent

Choose good wetting agent, with excellent antistatic and film forming property, and control the content of the wetting agent in the raw silk about 0.7%. Of course, the wetting agent must resist migration, good lubrication.

High-voltage discharge

The use of high-voltage discharge equipment to dispel the original silk, felt the static electricity is a practical reliable, simple and easy way.

Bypass lead

The choice of a suitable material will produce the electrostatic extraction in the production, and the investment is the smallest.. Such as guiding yarn eyes, felt plate, pressure roller surface can be coated with a material, the electrostatic derived, but also across the carpet surface holding a piece of lead induced electrostatic.

Humidity control

Will lay the felt, cold pressing to take sealed, by using the steam, air humidity, the humidity is maintained at around 70%, and can effectively control the generation of static electricity.

Production of chopped strand mat of electrostatic hazards greatly, control of it is a system engineering, from the original silk to short cut, cold pressing, transition and coiling are to prevent electrostatic generation. Only in this way can we ensure that the normal production and product quality stability.

Fiberglass Material Used in Bathtub

Currently, fiberglass is widely used in bathtubs and spas for many good reasons including flexibility of design, weight saving, lack of corrosion and ease of manufacture. These factors are all interlinked, but ultimately they can all be reduced to lower cost. For example, flexibility of design means more attractive products which capture market share – more sales mean lowered production cost through scale.

Besides fiberglass, there are other materials used for bathtubs:

Cast iron with a porcelain (vitreous enamel) finish. These are complex and expensive to manufacture from molten iron and a baked-on finish. They are heavy too - imagine the difficulties of installing a heavy cast iron bathtub on an upper floor. Handling is a problem, but often the flooring has to be reinforced to take the extra weight which can be almost double that of a fiberglass tub full of water. They are susceptible to chipping and repairs are difficult (though they can be stripped and re-enamelled).

Pressed steel (with an enamel finish) is another material used in bathtubs. They are relatively lightweight but are susceptible to chipping which leads to corrosion – rust – and therefore have shorter lifetimes. Repairs are difficult and rarely worthwhile.

These have many of the advantages of fiberglass but are expensive. They require more careful handling as they are relatively brittle – they do not have the flexibility of fiberglass bathtubs (which has glass mat strengthening), or the strength of steel.

So far, we’ve talked about bathtubs, but when it comes to spas then fiberglass is by far the leading material. The ability to economically produce complex shapes with multiple water jet inlets, seating levels and other features makes it the ideal choice. Hydrotherapy baths are very much like spas in this respect.

If budget is not an issue, then the alternatives to fiberglass make a better choice for bathtubs. If however you are planning to renovate and sell on an average property then fiberglass would be adequate. For those who run rental properties, the use of fiberglass will mean that earlier replacement will be necessary.

Some people like to have regular makeovers of their bathrooms, as color fashions come and go. Some people like a bathroom makeover every 5-8 years. If that sounds like you, then the lower cost of fiberglass units will make the makeovers less painful.

Fiberglass Reinforced Panels FAQ’s

Q: Can Fiber Reinforced Panels be installed over most substrates?

A: Fiber reinforced panels could be installed almost on all substrates. However, the installation method used will vary from one substrate to another.

Q: How to Install Fiberglass reinforced panels over Drywall?

A: Yes, FRP can be installed almost on all substrates by mechanical installation method. However if the contractor wants to install Fiberglass reinforced panels using adhesives, it could be done, just need to use solvent free adhesive only over porous surfaces such as concrete block, drywall, plywood or plaster walls. When installing FRP over non-porous surfaces, such as wall tiles, using a solvent base adhesive with rivets is recommended, In order to complete a better installation, remember to sand the tiles so the FRP could adhere better.

Q: Does Fiberglass reinforced panels could be installed flat against the wall?

A: FRP panels are so flexible so it can be installed flat against the wall. But remember as any building material, it will expand and contract according to environmental conditions where it was installed.

Q: What tools are required to install FRP?

A: The installation of FRP could be done by using: a fine tooth saw blade, carbide drill bit, the manufacturer’s recommended trowel, and a laminate roller that will be used to ensure maximum adhesion between FRP and the surface where it is being installed.

Q: In what size does FRP is manufactured?

A: Fiberglass reinforced panels usually are manufactured in 4 foot by 8 foot sections and with some architectural trims and/or moldings. For small applications and surfaces the FRP could be cut to exact dimensions by using a power saw with a fine tooth, carbide tip blades or masonry blades. FRP Panels in 0.090” thickness weigh about 12 ounces per square foot. A skid of 100 – 4x8’ panels weighs approximately 2000 pounds each.

Q: What could be a possible solution and faster installation procedure?

A: Fiberglass reinforced panels could be supplied with pre-laminated sheets of plywood, EPS insulation or drywall. By using this type of FRP, it will allow a faster installation and will produce a smoother surface, because it eliminates the need for rivets. It is also recommended before installing FRP to remove the packing of the panels, in the area where it will be installed. FRP ideally will absorb the same environmental conditions of the place where the panels will be installed.

Recycling and Using Fiberglass

Fiberglass is a versatile material that provides tangible potential over conventional materials such as wood, aluminum and steel. Fiberglass is produced by using less energy and is used in products which result in less carbon emissions. Fiberglass offers advantages of being light weight yet has high mechanical strength, impact resistant, is chemical, fire and corrosion resistant, and a good thermal and electrical insulator.

Even though fiberglass is extremely useful for the reasons previously listed, an "end of life solution" is needed. Current FRP composites with thermoset resins do not biodegrade. For many applications where fiberglass is used, this is a good thing. However, in landfills, this is not. For this reason, recent research and development has good into a solution.
Research has lead to methods such as grinding, incineration, and pyrolysis being used for recycling fiberglass.

The recycled fiberglass finds its way in various industries and can be used in various end products. For instance, recycled fibers have been effective in reducing shrinkage in concrete thereby increasing its durability. This concrete can be used best in freezing temperate zones for concrete floors, pavements, sidewalks and curbs.

Other uses for recycled fiberglass include being used as a filler in resin, which can increase mechanical properties in certain applications. Recycled fiberglass has also found its use together with other products such as recycled tire products, plastic wood products, asphalt, roofing tar and cast polymer counter tops.

The Famous Composite Material - Fiber Reinforced Polymers

The FRP (fiber reinforced polymer) is one kind of composite material which referees to plastic and polymer materials that are reinforced with structural fiber such as fiberglass, carbon fiber, or aramid fiber.

FRP can also be used as a replacement for the term "composite". Such as, "that boat is made out of FRP," instead of saying, "that boat is made out of composites."

Most often, FRP products are constructed using thermoset resins such as polyester, vinyl ester or epoxy, but they can also use thermoplastic resins such as polypropylene, PET, PEI, PEEK, PPS, and others.

The reinforcing fiber can not only be of various types (fiberglass, carbon fiber, or aramid) but the style of the fiber can very as well. The fiber can be discontinuous such as fiber that is found in chopped strand mat, or glass fiber used in gun roving. The fiber could be continuous direct-end roving, which is commonly used in filament winding and pultrusion.

Other constructions of fiber include woven roving and stitched fabrics. Woven is similar to other textiles, and structural fibers are interwoven. With stitched fabrics, layers of fiber are stitched together.

Fibers and fabric are then layered together to create a laminate. And the end result is a FRP composite product.

The Industries Use The Properties of FRP Composites To Their Advantage

Fiber Reinforced Polymer (FRP) or Glass reinforced Polymer (GRP) made with fiberglass chopped strand mat is an extremely versatile material. FRP composites and their properties can be specifically tailored for the end product. This is accomplished by adjusting the:

Resin matrix (epoxy, polyester, vinyl ester, etc)
Fiber reinforcement (carbon fiber, fiberglass, Kevlar, etc)
Amount of fiber reinforcement used
Orientation of the fiber (Unidirectional, woven, 0/90, etc)
Fabrication process (Hand laminating, closed molding, pultrusion, etc)
Fillers or additives (Fire resistant materials, UV blockers, etc.)
These many variables allow engineers and designers to manipulate the FRP composites depending on the application. This also makes FRP composites an ideal material for a wide range of applications. The major industries using FRP composites are:

Construction: FRP doors and windows, Bathtubs, hot tubs, and shower stalls, Portable buildings, Swimming pools, Architectural Panels, Counter tops and sinks

Electrical / Power Generation: Wind turbine blades and nacelles, Power lines, Power poles and transmission towers, Circuit boards

Marine: Boats, yachts, kayaks, canoes, etc, Docks, Pilings

Consumer: Sporting goods, Hobbies, Art and sculptures

Corrosion / Infrastructure: Tanks and vessels, Pipes, Bridges, Pollution control

Transportation: Aerospace, Automotive, Rail and mass-transit, Recreation Vehicles, Heavy Trucking

The list of products and applications using FRP composites is long and growing, and it is because of the malleability of the properties that allow FRP composites to dominate such a wide range of industries and products.

Fiberglass Panel in Retrofit Market

Retrofitting is most common in older factories that were built with a large number of glass windows. The glass tends to break and is costly to replace. The owners buy large fiberglass sheets that go across the existing windows and cover them. It lets light in without replacing the glass planes. The sheets are applied only on the outside, and while this doesn’t repair the glass, the benefits are cosmetic. It makes the building look a lot better because the material still lets light in, but you won’t see the broken panes behind it. It’s like an insulation barrier.
The panels are a composite of a fiberglass mesh, which is usually a chopped strand and woven cloth, embedded in a polyester resin base. The panels are manufactured in a process similar to continuous casting; they come through a series of dyes and the mat is chopped into the resin, which is then heated. It’s set and a chemical process hardens the panels that come down the line into a particular shape depending on the tooling. The panels are then cut to length as they go down the line.

Generally speaking, FRP panels aren’t necessarily meant to replace metal or vice versa. Both materials have their place, and they’re not interchangeable. It’s very common for FRP panels to nestle with metal; a lot of our panels are designed with that in mind.
